Once again, Lisbon vibrated to the rhythm of tech innovation. What was Web summit 2017 all about?

For the second edition, more than 60 000+ attendees (startups, corporate groups & journalists) from 170 countries gathered to share their vision about what will shape European tech in the coming years.

From Nov. 6 to nov. 9th, inspiring talks succeeded on the various stages of the Web summit. Among the main discussed subjects this year, Artificial Intelligence across all business sectors. Two robots, Sofia, and a robotic version of Abert Einstein, were presented on stage and talked about the relationships between human and robots : Will AI save us or destroy us? “We’re going to steal your jobs, yes, but it’s going to be a good thing” said Sofia, implying robots will shape the future of work and redefine our relation to the work load and workplace.

This year, attention was also paid to climate change and sustainability, as Al Gore concluded the Web summit, putting at stake how the tech world can provide great solutions to societal issues and the former President of France, François Hollande, reminded that with increased powers come great responsibility.

Nicolas Brusson, CEO of BlaBlaCar took the stage twice, on “Is Europe always going to be second best?” and on Auto-tech, “Rethink transport, remake the world”. He reminded this year he was very optimistic on the European Tech scene, blossoming with talent and funds!

Ludovic Le Moan, Co-founder at Sigfox, took the stage on IoT 2.0 with Charlotte Jee, Editor at Techworld.

Rolf Schrömgens, CEO & co-founder of Trivago spoke on “Demand more: Driving the convenience economy” and debated on the subject “Do tech companies pay enough tax?” with Andra Keay from Silicon Valley Robotics.
